Shevchenko's son made his debut for Ukraine at Euro 2024: how the U-19 team played in the opening match

Ukrainians started with a draw at Euro 2024 U-19

The U-19 national football team of Ukraine with Christian Shevchenko in its lineup failed to win the opening match of the European Championship, which began in Northern Ireland. Coach Dmytro Mykhailenko's wards faced the hosts in the first match of the tournament and were considered clear favorites, but failed to open the opponent's defense - 0: 0.

Bets on the victory of the Blue and Yellows were accepted at odds of 1.43 against 6.70 for the British. Ukraine had a territorial advantage, and the hosts relied on tight defense, counterattacks, and set pieces.

It is worth noting that Mykhaylenko lost his leading scorer, Dynamo Kyiv forward Matviy Ponomarenko. Perhaps it was this fact that prevented the Ukrainians from breaking open the opponent's defense.

Our young players created the most realistic chance to score in the middle of the second half, when their partners put Gennadiy Sinchuk from Metalist in an ideal position. However, his shot from 12 meters was saved by the goalkeeper. Christian Shevchenko's appearance on the field in the 87th minute also did not help the Blue and Yellows.

Thus, the Ukrainians lost two points at the start of Euro 2024. In a parallel meeting, the Italians won a strong-willed victory over the Norwegians - 2: 1. It is with the latter that Mykhailenko's wards will play the second match of the tournament on July 18 (starting at 17:30 Kyiv time).

As reported by OBOZ.UA, the head coach of the Ukrainian U-19 national team Dmytro Mykhailenko told what is happening in the team with Christian Shevchenko.
