Famous Ukrainian football referee Kateryna Monzul has been appointed as the new head of the Ukrainian Football Association's (UAF) referees committee. The 42-year-old Kharkiv resident replaced Italian Luciano Luci in this position and, accordingly, will no longer work matches as a referee.

The decision was made by the UAF Executive Committee, the organization's official website reports. Monzul was instructed to introduce mandatory polygraph examinations for referees during the competitive and non-competitive periods.

The procedure for appointing referees for football matches will also change. Previously, this was done by the chairman of the Luchi committee, but now the UAF intends to introduce a draw.

It should be noted that Monzul started refereeing at the age of 18. She became the first female referee of the Ukrainian Premier League, officiated at the World and European Women's Championship finals, and was recognized as the best referee in the world. On December 11, Kateryna was suspended from UPL matches for a gross error in a game against Shakhtar Donetsk.
