Media reported that Fury may be removed from the rematch with Usyk: what is the reason and why it is not true
Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) may allegedly be disqualified and suspended from his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs), which is scheduled for December 21. The World Boxing Council (WBC) could impose sanctions on the Gypsy King, as the Briton is called, because of the athlete's appearance.
This was reported by the Sport Bible portal, whose information was picked up by some Ukrainian media. In particular, it is claimed that Fury could be removed from the fight because he grew a beard before the second fight against Usyk, which allegedly contradicts the rules of conducting fights under the auspices of the WBC.
The journalists refer to the World Boxing Council Amateur Committee (WBC AMATEUR), but this organization organizes amateur boxing competitions. And it is true that athletes are not allowed to have a beard or mustache more than a thin strip of 10 centimeters above the lips.
But these rules have nothing to do with professional fights. In the WBC championship fights, clause 6 explicitly states that boxers have the right to wear a beard if it does not soften blows or cause cuts to the opponent. Therefore, Tyson does not face disqualification.
The day before, Fury said that he was going to postpone the rematch with Usyk. The Briton also made a categorical statement about the upcoming fight, which was subject to a historical rule.
On December 17, the official ceremony of the rivals' arrival in Riyadh took place, during which the Ukrainian impressed with his appearance. He also climbed into the cockpit and watched Tyson.
Our compatriot also announced his intention to leave the heavyweight division. He also answered the question whether he was going to end his career after the rematch with Fury.
On December 1, an epic promo for the rematch between Usyk and Fury was released. It has already been called a disgrace to American boxing companies.
Before that, it became known that Tyson wanted to organize a trilogy with Oleksandr to go down in boxing history. The Briton also accused the Ukrainian of disrupting the timing of the rematch.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Tyson Fury spoke insultingly about Oleksandr Usyk and challenged him to a third fight. The British journalist Charlotte Daly brought the Ukrainian to tears with a letter from the Armed Forces soldier.
