Legendary clam chowder: recipe for the famous dish served for US presidents during every inauguration

On January 20, Donald Trump will become President of the United States of America for the second time. He will take part in the official ceremonies that have traditionally been held at the White House since 1789, when George Washington became the first president of the United States.

Another tradition is particular dish. Traditionally, the lunch menu includes the classic New England Clam Chowder. This is a shellfish soup that was first served at such an event back in 1981. Why not try to recreate this famous dish at home and have a real presidential lunch? FoodOboz tells you how to cook it properly.

Ingredients

  • 33-35% cream - 300 ml
  • fish broth - 1 liter
  • water - 500 ml
  • flour - 50 g
  • 73% butter - 50 g
  • corn starch - 1 tbsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • black pepper - ½ tsp
  • seafood mix - 300 g
  • onion - 1 pc
  • potatoes - 3 pcs
  • Worcestershire sauce - 2 tsp.
  • Tabasco sauce - ½ tsp
  • pork - 100 g

Method of preparation

1. Prepare the broth. Pour 1 liter of water into a saucepan, add fish bones, chopped carrots, onions and a pinch of salt. Cook over medium heat for 30 minutes and then strain.

2. Prepare the vegetables. Peel the potatoes and onions and cut them into cubes. Fry the onion in 20 grams of butter in a separate pan until transparent.

3. Assemble the base. Combine the fish broth and 500 ml of water in a saucepan. Add the chopped potatoes and cook until soft (about 15 minutes).

4. Mix flour and cornstarch with a little water until smooth. Gradually add the mixture to the soup, stirring thoroughly to avoid lumps. Bring to a boil and reduce the heat.

5. Add the seafood mix to the soup. Cook for another 10 minutes over low heat.

6. Pour in cream, add the remaining butter (30 g) and stir. Bring to a homogeneous texture.

7. Add salt, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce and hot Tabasco sauce. Add the salted pork slices for flavor. Heat the soup for 5 minutes.
