Paramount has released the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which tells the story of one of Sonic's most famous enemies, the evil Shadow the Hedgehog. The threequel will premiere in cinemas on December 20, 2024.

It has become known that Keanu Reeves will voice the main antagonist, Ben Schwartz - Sonic, and Jim Carrey will appear on the screens as the villainous Dr. Robotnik again. Details about the premiere were reported by Variety.

The Sonic the Hedgehog movie premiered in cinemas in February 2020, and the sequel was released in April 2022. Both films together grossed more than $724 million at the global box office. Jeff Fowler, who directed the first two films, is responsible for the third too.

The third installment of the blockbuster adventure is scheduled to premiere on December 20 and will once again mix the animated hero with live-action characters in an explosive adventure with sky-high stakes.

In the trailer, we again meet Sonic (Ben Schwartz) and Tails (Colin O'Shaughnessy), who team up with their former enemy Knuckles (Idris Elba) to fight a new and formidable foe. Apparently, the adventure will focus on Shadow the Hedgehog, an experiment with a Sonic clone that went awry and seems to be almost invincible. The antagonist will be voiced by Keanu Reeves.

The third installment of Sonic will also feature the return of the villain Dr. Robotnik, played by Jim Carrey again. The return of the character is a surprise not only because of the storyline of this character in the previous installments but also because Carrey recently announced his retirement from acting, which, according to fans, will affect his participation in the franchise. So far, Carrey is not tied to any major projects for the next couple of years.

The cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 also includes James Marsden, Krysten Ritter, Sofia Pernas, Cristo Fernandez, and Jorma Taccone.
