"It was logical": Russian promoter justifies Fury for disrupting the fight with Usyk on February 17
Russian promoter Vladimir Khryunov called the actions of Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) to disrupt his fight against Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) logical. The former manager of Alexander Povetkin noted that the Gypsy King, as the Manchester native is called, tried to influence the Ukrainian's form.
Khryunov said this in an interview with the propaganda TV channel Match TV. The promoter from the aggressor country suggested that Fury had indeed been injured during the training camp before the fight with Usyk, but he was probably trying to get Oleksandr to peak form.
"Postponement of the Usyk-Fury fight? It's beyond my knowledge. But you can expect anything from people like Tyson Fury. It was logical to bring the opponent to peak form, not to train himself and postpone the fight. But there's a lot of money involved, a clash of interests between big promoters - anything is possible. They will fight in May, yes. Who will they fight for? I have no one to root for in this fight," Khryunov said.
Usyk and Fury's fight was originally scheduled for February 17, but the Gypsy King was cut open during sparring two weeks before the show. Tyson apologized for his injury, and a video of the incident was posted online.
The Briton also made a statement about retirement. He named the main reasons why Fury will not be able to refuse to fight the Ukrainian again.
When asked about the fake nature of the injury, Usyk criticized the Gypsy King. In addition, the fans reacted angrily to the situation.
The incident was also commented on by Croatian boxer Agron Smakic (20-2, 18 KOs), who dealt Fury the unfortunate blow. But ex-champion Carl Froch called the British fighter's injury suspicious.
Bookmakers reacted unexpectedly to the postponement of the Usyk-Fury fight by changing one of the quotes on its outcome. Two conditions were also revealed that the Ukrainian demanded to fulfill when he agreed to postpone his return to the ring on February 17. In addition, the media announced Tyson and Alexander's fees for the show.
