"It still affects me". Usyk's sparring partner told what happened in the Ukrainian's training camp. Video

British heavyweight made a frank confession

British heavyweight David Allen (21-6-2, 18 KOs), who helped Oleksandr Usyk during his preparation for the fight with Anthony Joshua, recalled a punch that struck him during a sparring session with Oleksandr. According to Allen, the accuracy of the punch was just phenomenal.

Allen staggered after the left side kick and almost ended up in a horizontal position. Usyk picked him up in time, asking him if he was okay.

"At the moment he punched me in the chin, there were only 20 seconds left in the last round. The last sparring was just brilliant... It wasn't the strongest punch, but it shattered my confidence. I was shaken. I remember the state I was in... It was the last 20 seconds. If I had survived them, I would have decided that I was the best heavyweight in the world... To be honest, it really undermined my confidence. It probably still affects me now," Dave admitted in an interview with iFL TV.

In 2020, after a training fight with Oleksandr Usyk, Allen had to end his professional career at the age of 28.

On his Instagram page, Allen posted a video of the fight with the Ukrainian and said that after a powerful punch from our compatriot, he had been knocked out for a while. The concussion he received at that moment was the last straw.

On February 17, 2024, Usyk will fight the British Tyson Fury for the absolute heavyweight championship. At stake will be the WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO titles. This will be the first fight in the history of the four-belt era.
