In defiance of the IOC: the International Federation of World Athletics announced full suspension of Russians from the 2024 Olympics

Russian athletes will not compete in track and field events at the 2024 Olympic Games. The International Federation of World Athletics has confirmed the complete suspension of representatives of the aggressor country from tournaments, including by not allowing athletes from the Russian Federation to compete in neutral status.

This was announced by the president of the organization, Sebastian Coe at a press conference in Monaco, following the World Athletics Congress, Barron's portal reports citing AFP. He emphasized that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) gave federations the priority right to admit Russians to the competition.

"You may well see neutral athletes from Russia and Belarus in Paris, but this will not happen in athletics. The position that our sport has taken and consistently holds is unchanged. International federations have the priority in admitting athletes. We have a fixed position. This position has not changed. Our decision has been made. We have come to the conclusion that there will be no neutral athletes," Coe said.

Earlier, the IOC allowed Russians to participate in the 2024 Olympics in a neutral status. In response, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine harshly criticized the IOC and threatened to boycott the competition.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, the Russian Wrestling Federation was outraged by the conditions of admission of athletes from the Russian Federation to the 2024 Olympics, demanding sanctions against Ukraine and Israel.
