Leonenko criticizes Shakhtar

Former Dynamo Kyiv and Ukrainian national team player Viktor Leonenko called Shakhtar Donetsk's draw in the first leg of the Europe League playoffs with French side Marseille a lucky one. The former striker noted that the Pitmen were lucky, and also criticized Marino Pushych defense.

Leonenko said this in an interview with sport-express.ua. According to the three-time best player in the Ukrainian league, Shakhtar's defensive line allowed the French attacking players to do too much. The former Dynamo player was especially angry with the second goal scored by goalkeeper Dmytro Riznyk.

"It was Shakhtar's day, the Donetsk team was lucky. We have some unhealthy tendency that all defenders run to the goalkeeper during flank passes, leaving their players behind. Just stand with your player and knock it out! In the second conceded goal, Zubkov, who was supposed to be insuring Gocholeishvili, did not do his job. I never understood how the ball flew into Riznyk's goal after 500 feet. Ndiaye hit it well. Shakhtar's flanks were failing because the wingers can't tackle," Leonenko said.

It should be noted that after the 2-2 draw in Hamburg, the teams will determine the participant of the 1/8 finals of the Europa League on Thursday, February 22. Marseille coach Gennaro Gattuso was in shock after the away game against Shakhtar.
