Ukrainian national team guard Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk became the champion of the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the first time in his career. The Cherkasy Mavpy (Cherkasy Monkeys) school graduate achieved this title as a member of the Boston Celtics, who beat the Dallas Mavericks 4-1 in the final series.

The Boston basketball team won the championship on their home floor, outscoring their opponents with the score of 106-88. Mykhailiuk came on in the last minute of the game and grabbed one rebound. In the playoffs, the Ukrainian played in eight games, averaging four minutes, one point and 0.6 rebounds.

Sviatoslav played 41 games in the regular season, starting twice and averaging 10.1 minutes. During this time, our compatriot scored four points, grabbed 1.2 rebounds and dished out 0.9 assists.

Mykhailiuk showed up to the championship celebration with a Ukrainian flag. The 27-year-old basketball player became the second Ukrainian in history after Stanislav Medvedenko (2001 and 2002) to win the NBA championship.

In addition, thanks to this triumph, Boston became the most decorated club in the association. The Celtics now have 18 wins in the tournament, one more than the Los Angeles Lakers.
