Diia is among the best inventions of 2024 according to TIME

Diia, an online public services platform application, has been named one of the best inventions of 2024 by TIME magazine. In the top of the Best Inventions 2024, the Ukrainian Diia was ranked first in the Apps & Software category.

TIME recognized the Ukrainian app "for its extraordinary impact and bold innovations that make life easier for millions of people." In turn, the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine noted that "this is just the beginning."

The magazine illustrated the app with a photo of a wedding ring, under which it offered: "Click to say yes". In other words, it is about the possibility of "quick marriage", online marriage registration of partners who are not near each other.

"The system is simple, albeit unromantic: one partner proposes through the app, and a notification is sent to the other. If the other party responds 'yes' within 14 days, they agree on a wedding date," the publication characterized the app as unromantic.

TIME explained the unromanticism by the war in Ukraine.

"The harsh way to declare your love was designed to help the many Ukrainian couples who have been physically separated by Russia's invasion of the country," the publication explained.

TIME's Best Inventions list annually highlights 200 different "innovative solutions from all walks of life that are changing the world and making it a better, more convenient, and safer place."

"For us, this is more than an award. This is a confirmation that Ukraine sets trends for digitalization around the world," said Mykhailo Fedorov, Minister of Digital Transformation.

Interestingly, the English-language magazine recognized Diia on the day when the service reported 21 million registered users.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, 6 additional services are to be added to the Diia app. Among them are the display of a gun permit and notification of communication problems.
