Christopher Nolan to direct The Odyssey movie. Details
Christopher Nolan is preparing another epic project that promises to be a real cinematic event. The director is known for his large-scale and innovative works, and this time his new movie, The Odyssey, is making a stir even before the start of filming.
Universal Pictures has announced that the mythical action movie will be shot with the latest IMAX technology. The film is expected to be released on July 17, 2026, offering viewers a unique visual experience, Variety reports.
The Odyssey tells the story of the ancient Greek hero Odysseus, who overcomes numerous obstacles on his way home after the Trojan War. Homer's ancient Greek poem remains one of the most influential works of literature, and its adaptation for IMAX promises to take the epic to the next level. This will be the first time that the Odyssey has been presented on such a large scale using advanced filmmaking technology.
The star-studded cast reflects the high expectations. Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron will play the main roles. This combination of talents promises an emotional and dynamic development of the characters within the epic story.
The director and his team plan to begin filming in 2025, immediately after the completion of the triumphant Oppenheimer project. Nolan, along with producer Emma Thomas, is working on the script and will bring it to life under the banner of his own company, Syncopy.
The story of the Odyssey has appeared on the big screen many times before, but none of the previous adaptations have taken such a technological approach. From classic films of the early 20th century to modern comedic interpretations, Homer's poem remains a source of inspiration for artists around the world.
Tom Holland, who will play one of the key roles, admitted that he himself knows little about the project. In the podcast The Dish, the actor shared that he was very impressed with Nolan, and although the details remain a mystery, he is looking forward to working on the film.
