Bellew, based on "his experience", said what will happen in the fight Usyk – Fury
Former world heavyweight champion Tony Bel lew (30-3-1, 20 KOs), who works as an expert on DAZN streaming, predicted the fight between Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) and Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs). Bellew believes that the old version of Fury would have done much better against the Ukrainian, so Oleksandr will win the fight on points on May 18.
Fury has undergone a significant stylistic transformation over the past few years. The "Gypsy King," as the heavyweight is known, burst onto the world stage in 2015 when he impressively handled Wladimir Klitschko to win the WBA, IBF, and WBO titles.
9 years ago, working with his trainer uncle Peter Fury, Tyson outsmarted Klitschko with his clumsy fighting style, winning on points. In recent years, however, the way the British super heavyweight goes about his work has changed dramatically.
Since joining Stewart's Sugar Hill in 2021, Fury has become a more aggressive fighter. Instead of using the jab and relying on speed, he now prefers to stand still and try to finish the fight with one punch.
This worked well in his second and third fights with Deontay Wilder, where he was able to nullify the destructive power of the "Bronze Bomber" by forcing him to retreat.
However, Bellew believes that Fury's new style will play into Usyk's hands when they meet in the absolute title fight on May 18.
"I think Tyson Fury had the best chance of beating him when he was working with Peter Fury, because back then he was an unorthodox, big, clumsy fighter who used his size and his qualities to his advantage. Now he's this fighter who likes to put pressure on his opponents. Now he's a different fighter, someone who is looking for a knockout, and that's music to Oleksandr Usyk's ears," Talksport quoted Bellew as saying.
Tony is sure that if they were equal in size, his compatriot would have no chance at all.
"Tyson Fury may be dominant and he may be too heavy, but in my opinion and based on my experience, Oleksandr Usyk will win on points. If you look at the situation in context: Usyk and Fury are the same size, this fight would not even be discussed," Tony summarized.
Bellew fought Usyk back in 2018 when the Ukrainian was a light heavyweight. In that fight, Tony had a great start but eventually lost by knockout.
Recently, Bellew recalled this fight. Tony is still impressed by the technical level of our compatriot.
In addition, Bellew believes that Oleksandr and Tyson will produce a real masterpiece fight. According to the ex-boxer, Usyk is even better in a fight than in theory, and his distance calculation is amazing.
It should be noted that in his previous interview, Bellew also favored Oleksandr, but expressed fears that there might be unfair refereeing in the fight with Fury.
