An unexpected replacement found for Rebrov in Ukraine national team - mass media

The former head coach of Shakhtar Donetsk and Dynamo Kyiv, Mircea Lucescu, may become the head coach of the Ukrainian national team. The 78-year-old specialist, who is unemployed after his work with the capital's club ends in the fall of 2023 but is not going to end his career, is seen as a replacement for Serhiy Rebrov.

At least that's what journalist Decebal Rădulescu says, according to Digi Sport. As the media representative says, the president of the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF), Andriy Shevchenko, allegedly had a telephone conversation with Lucescu about the possibility of inviting him to the Blue and Yellows coaching staff.

Mircea Lucescu.

"With Lucescu, it's a different story. I'm saying this for the first time. I have information that they are discussing this option with the Ukrainian national team. I heard that Shevchenko called him the other day. It is said that he is negotiating with the Ukrainian national team, which seems unbelievable to me," Rădulescu said.

It should be noted that the UAF Executive Committee recently expressed full confidence in Rebrov and his coaching staff despite the failure of the Ukrainian national team at the 2024 European Championship.
