An EU country has proposed a new grain corridor for Ukraine: The media learned the first details
The readiness to open a new grain corridor was announced by Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis at an informal meeting in Kyiv on October 2. The Greek newspaper Ekathimerini reported on the existence of a specific government plan on October 4.
This plan, according to the publication, involves the transportation of agricultural products by rail through Romania and Bulgaria to Thessaloniki and Alexandroupolis. It is assumed that Greek commercial vessels will be involved in the transportation, which have been actively transporting grain from Ukraine through green corridors in the Black Sea.
"A lot of behind-the-scenes activity is devoted to finding alternatives (to the Black Sea grain deal - Ed.), as grain from Ukraine is vital for global supplies... Greece is negotiating in Brussels, as well as with the United Kingdom, which plays an important role in decision-making on Ukraine," the newspaper reports.
At the same time, Greece sees additional benefits from the implementation of such a plan. Since the railways in the north of this country have not the best capacity, the supply of Ukrainian grain via these routes could be an incentive to modernize the railways.
As OBOZREVATEL reported earlier, Lithuania has opened a corridor for the transit of Ukrainian grain. Inspections are being moved from the Ukrainian-Polish border to the port of Klaipeda, which should significantly speed up deliveries.
