Track cycling tournament at the Olympics kicks off with a twist

Athletes broke the world record five times on the first day of cycling competition at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. This happened in the women's team sprint, where the British team won gold medals against New Zealand.

It was the British team that set new records three times. At the qualifying stage, they covered the distance in 45.472 seconds, surpassing the achievements of Chinese athletes. In the semifinals, Germany and New Zealand surpassed the British result, but they were not going to give up.

In the final race of the 1/2 finals, the UK representatives showed a time of 45.338 seconds. And in the battle for gold, the record was surpassed by 152 thousandths, ensuring the British victory in the tournament.

The Germans won the bronze medal against the Netherlands. Thus, the athletes showed a unique event in cycling at the 2024 Olympic Games.
