Six South Korean swimmers left the Olympic Village on Friday, July 26, in protest of the terrible transportation, rmcsport.com reports. The athletes returned to their hotel, located a five-minute walk from the Olympic pool at the "Pari Defiance" Arena in Nanterre.
Chung Chan-hoon, president of the South Korean Swimming Federation, said, "We just want to be comfortable."
The decision was made after two swimmers, Kim Woo-min and Hwang Sung-woo, complained about transportation in Paris. The former regretted the lack of air conditioning, comparing the shuttle to a "sauna."
"It's cooler outside than inside the shuttle. Usually, it takes 40-45 minutes to get from the Olympic Village to the pool, but today (Thursday) it took us over an hour and a half. The windows were taped over, probably because of the fear of terrorist attacks. Something has to be done," Kim Woo-min said in an interview with The Korea Times.
After that, the rest of the South Korean swimmers preferred to leave the Olympic Village. They will stay at their hotel until Tuesday, the day of the 4x200-meter freestyle relay.
