Scientists from the UK have established a link between the level of physical development and psychological health.

The discovery was made by a team of psychiatrists from University College London, whose work was published in the BMC Medicine journal.

According to the researchers, physically weak people have a higher risk of developing depression and anxiety than physically strong people.

During the study, researchers analyzed data from 153 thousand volunteers. Weight, height, physical characteristics, and the presence of symptoms of depression and anxiety were taken into account.

The physical strength of the study participants was determined by grip and maximum lung capacity: volunteers squeezed a dynamometer and then were tested on an exercise bike.

After comparing the data, psychiatrists found that signs of anxiety and depression were observed more often in physically weak than in physically strong people.
