On Sunday, June 23, a synagogue, a church, and a police unit were shot at in the city of Derbent in Dagestan. In addition, shooting occurred in Makhachkala.
As of Monday morning, the death toll from the terrorist attacks on Derbent and Makhachkala rose to 20 people, including 17 law enforcement officers. Forty-four people were injured, including 37 law enforcement officers, according to the occupying country's Telegram channels.
The head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, said that more than 15 Russian police officers were killed in the attacks.
According to him, several other civilians were also killed, including a clergyman, Father Nikolai, who had worked for more than 40 years in an Orthodox church in Derbent.
Preliminary, there were three attackers in Derbent, they managed to escape. In Makhachkala, one police officer was killed and six wounded. There were no injuries or deaths among the civilian population, the Dagestan Interior Ministry reported.
Social media shows smoke pouring out of the windows of the third floor of the synagogue. Firefighters are working at the scene.

The republic's Interior Ministry confirmed this information. Some of those involved were detained on the city beach. It is noted that one of the attackers is the son of the current head of the Dagestan municipality.
Clashes between militants and police continue in Makhachkala. A shootout was reported in the area of a synagogue. Residents of Dagestan are asked not to leave their homes unnecessarily. A shootout is also reported in Derbent.
As of 20:25, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has opened a case under the article "Terrorist Act" after the attacks in Derbent and Makhachkala. As of 20:35, the shooting in Derbent resumed again. In addition, according to social media reports, two sons of the head of Dagestan's Sergokalinsky district, Magomed Omarov, took part in the attack on Makhachkala: Osman and Adil Omarov.

As of 00:30 on June 24, 10 people were killed in the terrorist attack in Dagestan, 8 of them police officers. The head of the police department in the city of Dagestanskiye Vogni died from his injuries. The number of victims increased to 34, including 27 law enforcement officers.
Russian media, citing their sources in law enforcement agencies, reported that several of the attackers were listed in the Interior Ministry's databases as having connections in Wahhabi circles. All of them are residents of the republic. Exits from Makhachkala are currently blocked.
According to Dagestani media, former MMA fighter Gadzhimurad Kagirov could be among the eliminated terrorists. He is a master of sports in freestyle wrestling. In 2021, he represented Khabib Nurmagomedov's Eagles MMA club during the tournament.
In addition, it is reported that all five liquidated militants were natives of Sergokalyn district. And they were members of the terrorist group of the son of the head of Sergokalinsky district, Magomed Omarov. Three of the killed militants were related to Omarov. Two of them - Adil and Osman - were sons of the official. The other is Abdusamad Amadziev, his nephew.
