Top 3 dog breeds with which you need to walk the least
While all pet owners should be responsible for their dog's needs, there are certain breeds that have a lower need for exercise during the day.
They are ideal for those with mobility issues, for example. Veterinarian Kirsten Rongren, who works with pet insurance, named three breeds of dogs that do not need to be actively exercised, the Express writes.
Smaller breeds, such as chihuahuas, terriers, or dachshunds, usually need the least amount of physical activity per day. 30 minutes of walking per day is enough for them.
"It can be two short, steady 15-minute walks," the veterinarian said.
But all this is quite individualized, she explains. Jaujos Rongren once witnessed terriers "walking 10 miles with their owners."
"It's important to take the breed into consideration when determining the type of activity you can provide, but we also have to remember that it's also very dog-specific," she emphasized.
"I urge clients to remember that even if their mobility is limited, there are many ways they can keep their dog active," the doctor said.
Choosing the right amount and type of activity should be based on your dog's age, breed, general health, any existing diseases, what the owner is able to do, and the dog's individual personality type.
