What not to ask flight attendants: experts named three taboos

Flight attendants are not required to comply with personal requests

There are a number of questions and topics that you should not raise in a conversation with a flight attendant on an airplane. This violates the rules of etiquette and creates a very unpleasant impression of you.

As Best Life told us , the job of a flight attendant is very demanding, especially since they spend the lion's share of their time at high altitude. However, it is not this that wears them down the most, but the fact that they have to answer inappropriate questions or are approached with indiscreet requests.

In particular, the publication sought the advice of experts in etiquette and asked how to behave in the sky, so as not to be considered impolite. The experts gave some advice. In particular, they recommended never to ask a flight attendant if she can look after your child.

By making such requests that require the attention of flight attendants over a long period of time, you prevent them from performing their primary duty: being responsible for the safety of the flight.

"People need to understand that being a flight attendant is more than just customer service," said Julia Esteve Boyd, an international etiquette consultant and former flight attendant.

"Customer service is a very important aspect of the job, but safety takes priority," she stressed.

She advised that if you need immediate assistance, ask a fellow traveler for it first, or politely ask the flight attendant if he has time for a little service.

"Keep in mind, however, that helping you with personal problems is not a flight attendant's job," Boyd said.

It's also not a good idea to ask a flight attendant about changing seats.

"If your plane is half full, you may be tempted to ask the flight attendant to move you to a seat that is larger or farther away from the toilet. However, wait with such a request at least until the plane is in the air. It's inconvenient, especially during landing, when there's little time to respond to such demands," Boyd stressed.

The specialist also noted that you shouldn't expect a flight attendant to comfort you if your flight is delayed .

"Sure, a two-hour delay on the runway or a tropical storm in your path is frustrating, but you should keep those feelings to yourself. Flight attendants are not responsible for weather, mechanical delays, extra fees or prices," said Jody R. R. Smith of Mannersmith Etiquette Consulting.

"If you are upset about something Mother Nature or the airline did, please don't yell at the flight attendants," she advised.

She also recommended distracting yourself with a movie, a book or deep breaths in that case.

"Instead, lean back in your seat, fasten your seat belt and watch your manners. You can make sure you get from point A to point B," she added.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, the Emirates airline stewardesses complained that they were forbidden to get fat, and they were even threatened with punishment.
