Usyk must defend WBA belt

The unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) is likely to return to the ring in the second half of the summer. Our compatriot is preparing to defend his World Boxing Association (WBA) title in a fight against the British Daniel Dubois (19-1, 18 KOs).

This was stated by Usyk's manager Egis Klimas in an interview with ProBox TV News. He noted that the Ukrainian boxer dreams of fighting for the title of absolute world champion, but he currently has obligations to Dubois. Klimas added that a fight against Tyson Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs) is possible in the winter.

"Now we have a demand to make a mandatory defence of the WBA belt with Daniel Dubois. We are finishing the negotiations and will go fight. I expect it to happen in late July or early August. Everyone wants a fight with Tyson Fury for the title of absolute world champion, but now we are talking about a mandatory defence according to the WBA. A tournament in Saudi Arabia? It won't be easy, but if it happens, we'll be happy. If it doesn't happen, we'll fight whoever agrees to it," said Usyk's manager.

The day before, Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn spoke about Saudi Arabia's plans to organise Usyk-Fury and Joshua-Wilder fights on the same night. According to the British, the guaranteed fees for all boxers could reach $400 million.

At the same time, he admitted that Anthony will fight Fury in December if the Saudis' plans do not come to fruition. Earlier, British journalists released information about a similar tournament in the Middle East. However, according to them, the winners of the two fights will have to fight each other.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Anthony Joshua's (25-3, 22 KOs) promoter Eddie Hearn spoke about what is really happening around the Usyk-Fury fight.
