"This is the point of football". Zelenskyy speaks about the 2022 World Cup final, mentioning the "red button"

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the 2022 FIFA World Cup final, comparing it to the situation in real life. The leader of our country noted that this is the meaning of football: everyone has a chance to win, everyone can show that they are the strongest.

"But the competition is on the playing field, not on the battlefield. And the worst thing that can happen is a red card, not a red button. When people are united by football, people are united by the world. Therefore, for today I have prepared a special appeal from Ukraine to the whole world. To everyone who values peace and life," Zelenskyy said.

Volodymyr Oleksandrovych thanked everyone who posted his appeal on social media, which was banned by FIFA.

"Our players have shared the video... Yarmolenko and the entire national team of Ukraine, Shevchenko, Shovkovsky, Modric, Srna, Guardiola, Ratz and many other great players. I thank everyone! Our partner countries supported us. Thousands of global media outlets spread the news," the president added.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the decisive match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup between France and Argentina ended in a 2-2 draw in regular time. In extra time, the teams exchanged goals. The fate of the trophy was decided by post-match penalties.

During the award ceremony, the spectators in the stands of the Lusail Ikonik Stadium booed FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
