Will there be a baby boom in Ukraine after the war: demographers' forecast appeared

Demographers believe that immediately after the end of the war in Ukraine, the country is unlikely to experience a so-called baby boom, a sharp jump in the birth rate. This was the case in Europe after the end of World War II, but it will not happen in Ukraine.

This was stated by Ella Libanova, Director of the Ptukha Institute for Demography and Social Studies at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, during a national news telethon on Sunday, June 12 (scroll to the bottom of the page to watch the video).

According to her, most children in Ukraine are now born as planned. As soon as the standard of living, which has fallen due to the war, rises, families will decide to have children. According to Libanova, this will not happen immediately after the war.

"Today, most children are born as planned. Contraceptives are available, everyone knows about them, so children will be born only if there is a rapid increase in living standards and quality of life, when there are housing conditions for parents. But this will not happen immediately after the war," she explained.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Ukrainian soldiers showed a touching video with children on Children's Day. They noted that they have someone to protect in the war against the aggressor country of Russia.
