February is the right month to prune clematis, roses and wisteria

February is a good time to start preparing your garden for spring and summer blooms. Before the warm weather arrives, it's a good time to prune some ornamental plants. The procedure will help to form beautiful bushes and cascades and ensure healthy development of plants in the spring.

OBOZ.UA asked gardeners for advice on which plants need pruning in February. They named three flowering species.

Clematis

Both adult and young plants need care. Dead or weak stems must be removed from clematis, and all faded shoots must be cut off. In late clematis, it is necessary to remove all last year's stems at the level of a pair of healthy buds at a height of 15-30 above the ground. This will ensure that the plant grows vigorously in the spring.

Roses

When pruning roses, follow all the same rules that apply to other plants and remove dead, diseased or damaged branches. Shrub species should be shaped into a half-open bud to allow them to grow. Remove branches that grow inward to give the plant easier access to air and sun.

Wisteria

Wisteria is a very ornamental hanging plant that needs regular pruning to help it bloom better. To give it the right shape, you need to cut off last year's side shoots, leaving only a fragment of up to 2-3 buds from the base. You also need to remove unwanted and excessive growth. And, of course, free all technical openings and areas - windows, grilles, gutters, etc.
