Ukraine will be excluded from the bid for the 2030 FIFA World Cup - media
Ukraine is likely to be excluded from the joint bid with Spain and Portugal to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The three countries announced their intention to compete for the right to host the world's major tournament at the end of last year with the support of the European Football Union (UEFA).
Now, the issue of replacing the Ukrainian side is being considered, writes the authoritative publication The Athletic. It is noted that the war is ongoing and it now seems unlikely that our country will be able to quickly restore the infrastructure affected by Russia's military aggression and host the group stage matches of the World Cup. International federations are also closely monitoring the situation around the scandal with the head of Ukrainian football, Andriy Pavelko.
Most likely, Morocco will replace the Ukrainian part of the application. This country compares favourably with ours due to its close proximity to Spain and Portugal, which will greatly facilitate logistics. In addition, we should not forget about the tremendous success that the Africans achieved at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where they finished fourth.
Morocco, Spain and Portugal's bid is seen as a potential winner. It will compete with two collective bids from Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Greece. The hosts of the 2030 World Cup will be determined next year.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) reacted to the decision of the Pechersk Court of Kyiv to remove the organisation's president, Andriy Pavelko, from office.
