Laundry hacks for machine washing

Washing machines are indispensable in everyday life, and it may seem like there's no need to read any operating instructions. It's simple - you just need to load the laundry, add detergent, and select the desired cycle. However, as it turns out, there are often issues with this process as well.

For instance, there are three compartments in the detergent tray, and we often don't even think about why there are so many. We just pour the detergent in randomly and start the wash cycle. OBOZREVATEL has explained why you should pay attention to which compartment to add detergent to, which one to use for fabric softener, and why there's a third compartment in the first place.

The compartments in the detergent tray must be used for their intended purposes, and they are usually marked with numbers or letters, a star, or a flower. The arrangement of these compartments depends on the brand of the appliance.

The Arabic numeral 1, Roman numeral I, or letter A indicates the soak or prewash compartment. This step is necessary to effectively remove stubborn stains. During soaking, the fabric swells and stretches, facilitating the removal of dirt from the fibers. If you have chosen a wash cycle that does not include a soaking stage, do not put detergent in the first compartment. Some cycles have two stages, and in such cases, you should use detergent in compartment A.

The compartment marked with the number 2 (II) or the letter B is the main compartment. This is where you should add the detergent, regardless of the selected cycle.

Fabric softeners, rinse aids, or other additional detergents should be poured into the compartment marked with an asterisk or flower. You can add fabric softener during the washing process, but make sure to do so before the machine starts drawing water for rinsing.

What happens if you mix up the compartments? It's simple: the machine may wash your clothes with fabric softener and rinse them with detergent.

Dealing with greasy, stubborn stains deeply embedded in the fibers can be quite challenging. Even after several washing cycles, the issue may not be resolved. To learn about an unusual ingredient known for its hygroscopic properties that can effectively tackle greasy stains, read the article.
