Orban goes down in football history

Nigerian striker Gift Orban scored a stunning achievement in the Conference League match, in which his club Gent played away to Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir in the Conference League round of 16. The 20-year-old scored the fastest hat-trick in European competition and made history in UEFA club competitions.

After a draw in a home game, Ghent travelled to visit their opponents in underdog status. However, at the end of the half-hour, the visitors made an incredible run, scoring four goals in less than ten minutes. Orban scored three times and did so in three minutes and 25 seconds, according to analysts on the UEFA official website.

Thus, the Nigerian almost doubled the previous record held by Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah. In the current Champions League group stage, the Egyptian footballer scored three goals against Scottish Rangers in six minutes and 12 seconds.

Orban not only made history in European competition, but also helped his team defeat Istanbul Bashaksehir 4-1. The Belgians have reached the quarter-finals of the tournament and will find out their next opponent in the draw on Friday, March 17.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Five Thirty Eight's supercomputer has named the winner of the Champions League. In addition, in this tournament, the record of the best scorer in Shakhtar's history was repeated in the round of 16 match.
