The USA will hand over the assets confiscated from sanctioned Russian oligarchs to Ukraine. This will be the first such case.

This was announced by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. He noted that these funds will be used to support Ukrainian veterans.

"We are transferring the assets confiscated from the Russian oligarchs under sanctions to Ukraine for the first time. These funds will now be used to support Ukrainian military veterans. Those who contributed to Russia's war of aggression must pay the price," Blinken said.

How much Ukraine will receive

Blinken announced that the US will provide Ukraine with more than $1 billion in aid. That includes 5.4 million dollars of confiscated assets of Russian oligarchs.

Also, among other things, it provides 175 million dollars for air defense system components, missiles for HIMARS, ammunition and communication systems. In addition:

  • $90.5 million for humanitarian demining assistance;
  • $100 million for long-term military requirements;
  • 206 million dollars for food, water and shelter for internally displaced persons in Ukraine, as well as refugees abroad.

EU court allowed to lift sanctions against Russian businessman

The EU court has granted a lawsuit from Russian businessman Alexander Shulgin to remove his name from the EU's updated sanctions lists, which will be made public in September. The court thus authorized the lifting of sanctions against Shulgin. This is the first time such a decision has been made.

"As explained in the press service of the court, Shulgin did not challenge the sanctions in his lawsuit. He only demanded that he be removed from future lists. The EU Council had previously agreed that they would not include Shulgin's name in the updated lists given the weakness of the arguments against him," Radio Svoboda reported." It also recalled that:

  • Shulgin was included in the sanctions lists as the head of Ozon Group (Russia's leading e-commerce platform, which provides significant revenues to the Russian government);
  • He stepped down as CEO of the company in April 2022 after falling under sanctions by the European Union and Australia.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, Putin's eldest daughter Maria Vorontsova is also under sanctions by the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom. However, this does not prevent her from being published in American and Swiss publishing houses as the author of acticles on endocrinology and medicine.
