They can hit enemy targets at a distance of up to 500 km.

The Polish Armed Forces will deploy US HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems on the border with Russia. In particular, the MLRS will be installed in a division located near the border with the Kaliningrad region of the aggressor country.

This statement was made by Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak during the swearing-in ceremony for new soldiers. This was reported by the Polish edition of Gospodarka.

"This year, the 16th Mechanised Division will be equipped with American HIMARS. This is a division ordered in 2019. As you know, the US Congress has approved our order for another 500 HIMARS launchers (for charging modules)," the minister said.

It is worth noting that the Russian occupiers are very afraid of American MLRS, as they are capable of hitting enemy targets at a distance of up to 500 km. The system carries six multiple launch rockets or one MGM-140 ATACMS missile on a five-tonne truck, and can fire guided and unguided missiles.

The HIMARS is designed to target areas where artillery systems, air defence and fire support assets, trucks, combat vehicles and armoured personnel carriers are concentrated, as well as to provide fire support to its units and support assets.

As a reminder, Warsaw is embarking on the largest rearmament campaign in 50 years in response to the growing threat from Russia. Poland already has weapons with a range of up to 34 miles (54 km).

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Poland has begun to build fortifications on the border with Belarus, including anti-tank hedgehogs, as well as near the Kaliningrad region of Russia. This is the country's strategy, which calculates the possible defence and deterrence of potential aggression.
