Pentagon: PMC "Wagner" is not currently involved in the war against Ukraine
The Pentagon says businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin's Russian private military company "Wagner" has gone quiet more than two weeks after it staged a mutiny in Russia. It is not currently taking any significant part in military operations against Ukraine.
This was stated by the official representative of the American defense establishment Brigadier General of the Air Force Patrick Ryder. His words were quoted by Sky News.
"At this stage, we do not see that the forces of the "Wagner" group involved in support of military operations in Ukraine in any significant way," he said.
The publication added that Russian mercenaries had fought "some of the bloodiest battles" of the war. But after last month's uprising, they were given the option of withdrawing from the war or participating in it as part of the Russian army.
They were given a choice. They would either "go into exile" and join the regular forces of Russia or return home.
On Wednesday, July 12, the Ministry of Defense of the aggressor country said that PMC "Wagner" completes the transfer of equipment and weapons to the regular armed forces of the Russian Federation.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden said that no one knows yet where the owner of PMC "Wagner" is and in what condition. At the same time, the American leader advised Prigozhin to fear poisoning.
As OBOZREVATEL reported, the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin announced his meeting with the "Wagner" soldiers. He noted that from a legal point, this private military company does not exist.
