Kiev's municipal services continued dismantling the Soviet "sickle and hammer" from the shield of the Victory Monument "Motherland" on the right bank of the Dnieper. As a result, the national Trident of Ukraine will be erected over the capital instead of communist symbols.

This was reported in the Ministry of culture on Facebook. The Office indicated that the work is proceeding according to plan, and represents a truly historic process.

"On the Motherland monument began work on the dismantling of the Soviet coat of arms in the framework of the Trident of the Motherland project," - stated in the message.

We would like to remind you that the work on dismantling the communist symbols started two days ago, on July 28. The shield over the Dnieper will be completely transformed, according to the capital's general plan, by Independence Day.

As OBOZREVATEL reported, the right-bank sculpture "Motherland" may be renamed "Mother Ukraine." Thus, one of the most recognizable sculptures of Kyiv will lose "kinship" with its Moscow counterpart.
