Remove the packaging and cut the stems

To make tulips look good for longer, they need to absorb water well from the vase. To do this, remove the packaging from the bouquet immediately. The film prevents the stems from accessing water. It is also worth removing the lower leaves and making a fresh cut on the flowers. The old one has most likely dried out and does not allow water to pass through. Cut the stems at an angle of about 45 degrees to maximize the area of contact with water.

Keep the bouquet cold

The colder the air around the bouquet, the longer it will stay fresh. To do this, place tulips in cold water only. You can even periodically add ice cubes to the vase to keep the temperature low. It is also worth taking the vase out to the balcony at night. In addition, avoid storing the bouquet near heat sources and in the sun as such conditions will quickly damage it.

Change the water in the vase

Bacteria will quickly get into the water in which the tulips are standing, which will accelerate the decay of the stems and damage the bouquet. That is why it needs to be changed quite often. Fresh water should be poured at least daily or better twice a day. Before immersing the flower in it, pinch the cut with your finger. This will avoid the formation of an air bubble that will prevent water from reaching the plant.

Choose the right vase

Shallow vessels are best for tulips. It is enough for the water to cover the stems a few centimeters above the cut. In extreme cases, you can simply pour a little liquid. In addition, make sure that the neck of the vase does not squeeze the flowers. This species loves space, so it should be kept in a spacious vase.
