How to grow carrots sweet and straight: tips for summer residents

Carrots are one of the most popular vegetables on the Ukrainian table and in the garden. It is not difficult to grow, but to get juicy, sweet and straight root vegetables, you need to know some secrets.

The variety of carrots

You should choose a carrot variety based not only on intuition. For example, long-fruited species should only be planted if you have light and loose soil. Otherwise, it is better to choose round varieties.

Soil acidity

The acidity of the soil determines whether carrots will be sweet or not. If your soil is too acidic, lime can help. Simply add 200 to 400 grams (depending on the acidity) per square meter of the garden. Ash will also help to equalize the pH of the soil.

Fertilizing

You can also make carrots sweeter with the right fertilizer.

For example, you can take 2 tablespoons of a complex fertilizer called nitroammophoska, add about 6-7 crystals of potassium permanganate or a glass of ash to it, and dissolve it all in 10 liters of water. This solution should be watered once a week for 2-3 weeks.

Also, if your soil is not highly acidic, you can prepare a fertilizer from boric acid. All you need to do is dissolve 1 teaspoon in 10 liters of water and water the plants once every 5-7 days for 2-3 weeks.
