On Friday, June 9, the deputies of the Kyiv Regional Council supported the historic decision to ban the activities of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate in the region. The deputies of the Kyiv Regional Council voted to appeal to the Verkhovna Rada to legislate a ban on the activities of religious organisations of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), which has ecclesiastical and canonical ties with the Russian Orthodox Church and is in a relationship of subordination with it.

This is stated in a post on Facebook by the Kyiv Regional Council.

"The historic draft decision to ban the activities of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate in the Kyiv region was supported by the deputy corps," the council said.

Deputy Chairman of the Kyiv Regional Council Tetiana Semenova stressed that the activities of religious organisations whose church-canonical connection with the aggressor state has been proven threaten national security.

"We believe that a religious organisation that is actually controlled by the aggressor country and supports its crimes cannot operate on the territory of Ukraine. The Kyiv Regional Council asks the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to immediately consider the bills banning the activities of the UOC-MP," she said.

Ukrainian cities are abandoning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP) on a massive scale. Some regions have already banned the activities of pro-Russian churches, while in other regions this ban is partially applied, with decisions being made by individual communities or settlements.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, the activities of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate were also banned in Zakarpattia. The decision was made on June 1, 2023, at a meeting of the Transcarpathian Regional Council.

Earlier, deputies of the Chernivtsi Regional Council banned the activities of religious organisations and associations that have a proven ecclesiastical and canonical connection with the aggressor state of Russia. The deputies voted for this decision on May 16.
