The meeting took place at the stadium of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club in London

Undefeated Ukrainian WBO International lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk (17-0, 9 KOs) won a fight against Ivan Mendy (47-6-1, 22 KOs) from France. The 34-year-old native of Krasnodon won the EBU European champion's belt at the stadium of Tottenham Hotspur football club in London. The fight ended by a unanimous decision of the judges 117:112, 116:112, 116:112, 116:112.

At the start of the fight, Mendy took the centre of the ring, which suited the Ukrainian. Denys moved around his opponent, working his jab. As soon as our compatriot attacked, the Frenchman tried to go into the clinch.

In the third round, Mendy caught Berinchyk on a counterattack, causing some unpleasant emotions for the Ukrainian fans.

Both fighters demonstrated neat boxing, without exorbitant speed. Denys tried to move a lot, not to waste extra energy, but to inflict maximum damage on his opponent. It was only at the end of the 4th round that Berinchyk began to gradually invest in his left side.

In the 5th round, unpleasant "calls" began for Denys, when several accurate punches from Mandy came.

Denis worked well in a left-handed stance, successfully diving under his opponent, trying to avoid the Frenchman's long arms as much as possible. Berinchyk finished the 6th round with a beautiful combination.

There was a feeling that the Ukrainian boxer was saving his energy for the championship rounds. Berinchyk showed great superficiality, diving and avoiding punches. At the same time, Ivan did not look tired, periodically checking the Ukrainian athlete's head.

The championship rounds were an evenly contested affair. Our fighter tried to give everything he had accumulated in the ring, but there was no particular advantage for the Ukrainian.

As OBOZREVATEL reported, Denis defended his title a year ago. A tense fight against Russian Isa Chaniev (15-3, 7 KOs) in Brovary at the Terminal shopping mall ended with the Ukrainian winning on points: 116:112, 118:110, 118:111.

The Ukrainian defended his previous belt in October 2020, defeating Romanian Viorel Simion (22-3, 9 KOs).

We will remind, in July Berinchyk made his debut in fisticuffs. In his first fight in this form of martial arts, the 33-year-old boxer defeated former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter Artem Lobov.
