According to the latest research, Luke Willcox, an expert on Seasonal Spuds, told the Mirror how to store potatoes in the modern world. He notes that modern science has changed many approaches to food storage.

Previously, it was believed that storing potatoes in the refrigerator or simply in a dark place provoked the formation of a chemical called acrylamide. Therefore, it was suggested to store potatoes at lower temperatures. According to the expert, now official recommendations from WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Program) indicate that potatoes are best stored in the refrigerator. This way, they will last three times longer when fresh.

The expert also spoke about a recent study by the Food Standards Agency (FSA). According to their findings, storing potatoes in the refrigerator does not significantly increase the possibility of acrylamide formation compared to storing them in a dark place.
