Which Ukrainian celebrities joined the Armed Forces

This year, the Day of Defenders of Ukraine has been moved forward by 13 days and now falls on October 1. Over the past two and a half years, this day has become more important to our people than ever. Moreover, many Ukrainian stars now have two holidays: depending on their main profession, they also celebrate the Day of Defenders of Ukraine.

Some of them changed their careers of their own free will, while others were drafted. However, no matter what the former artist is doing at the front now - working on the front line or at the headquarters - they remain warriors and military men. OBOZ.UA decided to remind you which stars took up arms after the full-scale invasion and are fighting for the freedom of Ukraine.

Ryta Burkovska

On September 22, actress Ryta Burkovska announced that she had taken the oath and officially joined the Ukrainian Defense Forces. According to the woman, she was inspired to take this step by the head of the medical service of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade, Victoria Kovach.

"I don't know what my decision will bring me, but I know for sure that in this historic time, it is the only right decision and I am glad that I have finally made it and I am honored to serve among the best," the actress said.

Taras Topolia

Since the beginning of the war in 2014, Taras Topolia, the frontman of Antytila, has been volunteering and helping the military at the front. After the full-scale invasion of Russia, the band members joined the Territorial Defense Forces of Ukraine. They spent more than 7 months at the front, but later they were withdrawn from service. Now Taras Topolia is actively volunteering and traveling with Antytila to give charity concerts.

Andriy Khlyvniuk

The frontman of the famous Boombox band became a patrol police officer of the Rapid Operational Response Unit (KORD) in Kyiv immediately after the large-scale Russian invasion. During the defense of Kyiv, the musician came under mortar fire and was wounded in the face. In the hospital, a fragment of an enemy mine was removed from the warrior artist's face, and he returned to duty a week later.

Nowadays, the singer is not only engaged in military activities, but also travels abroad to give charity concerts and actively volunteers.

Serhiy Zhadan

In June, the frontman of the rock band Zhadan i Sobaky (Zhadan and the Dogs), Serhiy Zhadan, showed himself in a military uniform for the first time and said that he would serve in the National Guard of Ukraine. He also announced that he would become one of the soldiers of the 13th Khartia Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine.

However, according to Oleksandr Polozhynskyi, now Serhiy Zhadan is working for Radio Khartia.

Oleh Sentsov

The Ukrainian filmmaker joined the Ukrainian Armed Forces immediately after the full-scale invasion. For a long time, the former political prisoner of the Kremlin fought in the Donetsk region, where the fiercest fighting took place. Sentsov fights as a member of the Magura 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade.

He also said that his greatest motivation to join the army was the desire to pay back the enemy.

Daniel Salem

The TV presenter and restaurateur fought in the Kherson sector. Currently, he is a member of the National Guard and travels to the front line with reconnaissance units. For almost a year and a half of service, Salem has repeatedly come under enemy fire. Dmytro Dikusar

Choreographer Dmytro Dikusar joined the army on February 24. He didn't hesitate to trade his career as a dancer for trenches and military boots. During the full-scale war, Dikusar managed to go through many hot spots, although the defender is in no hurry to talk about his experience.

Kolya Serga

Musician and TV presenter Kolia Sierha joined the ranks of volunteers immediately after the Russian invasion. In two and a half years, he managed to survive various hot spots. Pavlo Aldoshyn

Actor Pavlo Aldoshyn, known for his role in Sniper: The White Raven, joined the Ukrainian Armed Forces since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion. However, he does not hate the enemy, like millions of Ukrainians.

"I don't even want to feel pity for them because it that when I get involved. Do you know when I will feel sorry for them? When there will be a role where I have to justify the actions of my protagonist. Now, as a person who does what he does at the front, it just interferes with the work," the actor told OBOZ.UA.
