The Queen of Denmark was almost hit by a scooter: the incident was caught on video
Queen Mary of Denmark almost got hit by a scooter during a visit to Greenland. The monarch was hit by an elderly man who drove through the crowd. The royal fell to the ground, but quickly got up, assuring that everything was fine.
The incident involving Mary was caught on video and has already been published online. The queen's youngest children, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, were just a few meters away when their mother was almost hit by a man. King Frederick was also greeting his subjects nearby at the time, the Daily Mail reports.
The Queen screamed as she fell and looked exhausted after the incident, but she managed to maintain her composure after getting to her feet. Her bodyguards quickly rushed to her aid and stopped the scooter from moving further.
After the incident, the scooter driver looked even more stunned than the Queen, saying he "didn't know what had happened." The elderly man admitted that he wanted to extend his hand to Queen Mary, but instead stepped on the gas pedal.
The Royal Press Office confirmed that Mary was unharmed in the incident and was able to continue with her planned schedule of events. Spectators said the crowd was shocked after seeing what they saw. "I could see how hurt she was, her eyes immediately filled with tears. It must be painful to be hit at such a speed," commented one of the audience members. Both the police and the palace security accepted the elderly man's explanation and recognized the incident as an innocent mistake.
