King Frederick X
Frederik X is the King of Denmark (from January 14, 2024). He is the son of Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik.
The future king was born on May 26, 1968. He is the great grandson of British Queen Victoria.
In 1992-1993 he studied at Harvard University, where he studied political science. In 1995, he received a PhD in political science.
At one time he was an intern at the Danish mission to the UN, and also served as the first secretary of the Danish Embassy in Paris.
He has served in the army, air and naval fleets. He has the rank of captain-commander of the fleet, lieutenant colonel of the army and aviation.
He was a member of the polar expedition "Sirius-2000".
Ascent to the throne
Queen Margrethe II announced her intention to abdicate on December 31, 2023 in her New Year's address. On January 14, 2024, the 52nd anniversary of the beginning of her reign, an official abdication ceremony was held and Frederick X was proclaimed the new King of Denmark.
Frederick has been married to Australian-born Mary Elizabeth Donaldson since May 2004.
In October 2005, they had a son, Prince Christian Valdemar Henri John.
In April 2007, the couple also had a daughter, Princess Isabella Henrieta Ingrid Margrethe
In January 2011, twins were born to the family - Prince Vincent Frederick Minick Alexander and Princess Josephine Sophia Ivalo Mathilde.
