27 years ago, the world said goodbye to Princess Diana

Almost three decades ago, on September 6, 1997, the whole world said goodbye to the favorite of the British people, Princess Diana of Wales. A week before the funeral, the royal died as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident.

While driving through the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris, the princess had an unfortunate accident. Her partner Dodi Al-Fayedom and the driver of the car died on the spot. Diana was sent to the hospital, where she subsequently went into the backlights.

William and Harry's mother was buried at Westminster Abbey, located in London. Three million people came to say goodbye to Charles' ex-wife, while 2 and a half billion watched the ceremony on TV.

Subjects brought flowers and portraits of the deceased to the palace. Standing next to the coffin were the then Queen of Great Britain, the princess's sons and other members of the royal family. Despite a special protocol that forbids bowing to monarchs lower in status, Lady Diana's former mother-in-law Elizabeth II bowed to the body of the deceased.

The princess was buried in a long-sleeved black dress that she had purchased earlier in her life but did not have time to wear during her lifetime. According to a source close to the monarchs, Charles could not hold back tears before approaching the coffin with the body of his former lover.

Diana is buried in the middle of Oval Lake, located near the estate of Earl Charles and Karen Spencer. The princess' younger brother decided that it was near the home where they grew up together that his sister would be laid to rest.
