"Our strength is in our unity." Jamala returns from America and reveals amount raised during tour
The star held auctions at concerts
Ukrainian singer Jamala has completed her first tour of North America. The 2016 Eurovision Song Contest winner visited 11 cities: New York, Chicago, Toronto, Montreal, Minneapolis, Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Orlando and Philadelphia, where she presented her concert programme "Like A Bird". The vocalist provided a report, impressing with the amount raised.
According to Jamala's Instagram post, her team managed to raise UAH 2 million to help Ukraine during the tour. The artist will donate the money to various charities. In addition, at each performance, the star held auctions for which she prepared lots. Some of them are a football signed by footballer Andriy Shevchenko, a collection of 300 poems by Lina Kostenko, stamps signed by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhny, and personal belongings of the celebrity (to see the photos, scroll to the end of the page).
"Don't ask me if I've had time to see the cities. Don't expect photos with iconic places, because all I saw were airports, hotels and concert venues. But most importantly, I saw people. Dozens of hours on the road and many thousands of kilometres behind. This is an important and pilot tour in this difficult time for the country. But our strength is in our unity!" the singer said.
Ukrainians left nice words under the singer's post: "Jamala - you are just incredible," "You are just wonderful. The concert in Orlando was enchanting. Glory to Ukraine!", "You are cool. Thank you for the example of decency, dignity and honour of a true daughter of her country", "Thank you! Low bow for your work, energy and love".
The vocalist also touched her followers with advice: "Remember what I said during my performances: "That's how closely you stand side by side at concerts, so 'stand' and be the voices of our country wherever you are!"
Earlier, OBOZREVATEL reported that Svitlana Loboda visited Kherson and eastern Ukraine on a humanitarian mission. The celebrity personally handed over the funds raised and humanitarian aid to the volunteers. She recently returned home after a charity tour in Riga.
