Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese calls to support Ukraine in the war: I'm very nervous about Russia's aggression

Martin Scorsese speaks out about Russian aggression

Oscar-winning American film director Martin Scorsese, who directed the best films with Leonardo DiCaprio - The Wolf of Wall Street, Shutter Island, The Aviator, The Departed, etc. - spoke out in support of Ukraine. At the Cannes Film Festival, he admitted that he was nervous about Russian aggression.

He called for support for Ukrainians fighting for democracy. The video of the press conference was posted on the official YouTube channel of the Cannes Film Festival (to see photos and videos, scroll to the bottom of the page).

A Georgian journalist asked Scorsese how he felt about Russian aggression.

"I'm very nervous about Russia's aggression, very worried about the whole region. The younger generation no longer remembers the Second World War. They don't remember the Balkan nations and what happened there, and what happened to Poland, what happened between the Russians and the Germans," the director began.

He also added that countries that value freedom of speech may have opponents, but this does not mean military invasion, assassination and incitement.

"We should support countries that are at least trying to join the democratic process. It reminds me of the 1930s, when there was no democracy. Now it is deeper and stronger. It has to do with the very values of how you live," Scorsese said.

Earlier, OBOZREVATEL wrote that a demonstrator wearing a dress in the colours of the Ukrainian flag staged a dramatic protest against Russian aggression in Cannes. Blogger and fitness trainer Ilona Chernobay came out to the photographers and poured artificial blood, after which she was rudely escorted out.
