Jamala will become Ukraine's spokesperson at Eurovision 2024: the singer will announce the National Jury's scores in the grand final
Ukrainian singer and Eurovision Song Contest 2016 winner Jamala will be Ukraine's spokesperson at this year's song contest in Malmö, Sweden. The performer will announce the scores from the National Jury live on the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 Grand Final on May 11.
This was reported by Suspilne. It is symbolic that it was in Sweden that Jamala won the crystal microphone with her song "1944". At that time, the contest was held in Stockholm.
The artist became the second contestant from Ukraine to bring victory to the country. Before that, in 2004, Ruslana and the Wild Dances won the first place. And two years ago, at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, Kalush Orchestra won the contest, calling on Europe to help Ukrainians in the war against Russia.
Jamala calls Eurovision an amazing thing and notes that if you are part of this story, you will always be a part of it. "Being a spokesperson this year is also special for me. Although I've played many roles over the past seven years, announcing the scores from my own country will be my first such experience," the star admits and adds that it is a great responsibility.
As you know, the semifinals will take place on May 7 and 9, and on May 11 we will find out the name of the winner of Eurovision 2024. This year, Ukraine will be represented by a duet of singer Jerry Heil and rapper alyona alyona with the song "Teresa & Maria". According to bookmakers' forecasts, the artists are not in the top places of the rating, but their song has become one of the most popular.
