In the top three: Jamala's song "1944" is named one of the best winning compositions in the history of Eurovision

The star sang about the ethnic cleansing of the Crimean Tatars

Ukrainian singer Jamala won the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest with the song 1944. The Guardian compiled a list of the best compositions of the song show for the entire history of its existence and placed the celebrity's hit in third place. The singer reacted to this news.

According to The Guardian, the first place in the ranking of the best song is Waterloo by the famous Swedish band ABBA. It brought victory to Sweden in 1974 and opened the way to the world fame for the group. The hit is performed on behalf of a girl who is ready to surrender to her beloved, just as Napoleon had to surrender at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 (to see the video, scroll to the end of the page).

Second place went to the song Poupée de Cire, Poupée de Son by the French singer France Gaulle. The star won Eurovision with it in 1965. In the hit, the celebrity calls herself a wax singing doll who sees the world in bright pink.

Third was Jamala with the song 1944 about the ethnic cleansing of the Crimean Tatars by Stalin. "The lyrics of the song caused controversy: Russian politicians complained that it was about Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014, but it was a really fantastic track, whatever it was about," The Guardian editorial noted.

Jamala on her Instagram page thanked for the high praise of her track.
