Chef Yevhen Klopotenko shared how his meeting with the former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and now Ambassador of Ukraine to the UK Valeriy Zaluzhny went in London a few weeks ago. The restaurateur also said that the purpose of his trip to England was to organize a charity dinner.

Klopotenko was surprised to be spoken to by Zaluzhny, but he was even more impressed by the ambassador's stern gaze. In an interview with 33 Questions, he said that it was uncomfortable to look him in the eye.

"The meeting with Zaluzhny went well, I was a little shocked. When I approached him, he was like: "Good afternoon, Yevhen!" I didn't know what to say to him. Then he looked me in the eye. And looking into Zaluzhny's eyes... I was a little embarrassed," the restaurateur said.

He noted that he had traveled to London to organize a dinner party that had a charitable component to help the military. That's when Klopotenko learned that Valeriy Zaluzhny didn't like the most important dish of Ukrainian cuisine, borscht.

"I was very surprised that he didn't like borscht. I told him that I would come up with a borscht that he would definitely fall in love with. That's my mission," the restaurateur added.

The chef is actively spreading knowledge about Ukrainian cuisine around the world, so this became another topic of conversation with the ambassador. He asked what he could do to help the British learn more about our traditional dishes.

"We talked about different things, where can I be involved? We talked about the development of Ukrainian cuisine, the presentation of Ukrainian cuisine in the English space. That was the meeting about cooperation between Britain and Ukraine," he said.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote that Yevhen Klopotenko admitted that he had never cooked for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, although he had previously created dishes for his wife Olena Zelenska. After the outbreak of full-scale war, strict food bans were imposed on the family of the head of state.
