Elizabeth II died two years ago: what serious illness she was hiding and what "positive" Prince Harry found in his grandmother's death
Exactly two years ago, on September 8, former Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain passed away at the age of 97. Her Highness, who held the status of the longest-reigning monarch in the history of England, spent her last hours surrounded by family and grandchildren.
Despite the fact that the official cause of death of the Buckingham Palace representative, according to an extract from the National Register of Scotland, is old age, there is an assumption that she passed away due to a secret illness. In honor of the anniversary of Elizabeth II's death, OBOZ.UA collected facts about the last days of the ruler's life and the "positive" that Prince Harry found in his grandmother's death.
What ailment the monarch was hiding
A few months after the passing of the former Queen of Great Britain, biographer and close friend of the late Prince Philip Giles Brandreth told in his book Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait that in recent years Her Highness has been battling a serious illness, bone marrow cancer. According to him, the monarch hid the disease, but was preparing for death.
"I had heard that the Queen had some form of myeloma - bone marrow cancer - which would explain her fatigue, weight loss, and mobility problems that we were often told about during the last year or so of her life," the man wrote.
So far, there has been no confirmation of the veracity of Giles Brandreth's words, so it is officially believed that she died "of old age."
Elizabeth II realized that her time on earth was coming to an end
According to Edward Young, the personal secretary of the British royal family, her heart stopped beating during her sleep: "Very peacefully. In a sleep. Gone. Old age. She was not aware of what was happening. No pain."
Despite the fact that the monarch's death was unexpected for most citizens, the author of the biographical work "Charles III: New King, New Court. The Inside Story," Robert Gardman assured: "Elizabeth realized that her time to pass away had come. A locked red box was found near the late queen's deathbed, inside of which were two sealed letters: one to her son Charles, the other to Sir Edward. In addition, the monarch placed in the box her last order, in which she selected candidates for the prestigious Order of Merit for "exceptionally meritorious service."
What "positive" did Prince Harry find in his grandmother's death
According to former actress Meghan Markle, despite the fact that she and her husband, Prince Harry, had a very difficult time with the death of the former queen, her chosen one tried to find the positive even at such a tragic moment. She admitted that the monarch reassured himself with the thought that his grandmother could see her beloved Prince Philip, who died in 2021, again.
"I feel deeply grateful that I had the opportunity to spend time with her and get to know her better. It was a difficult time, but my husband, who is always optimistic, said: "She is now reunited with her husband," the Duchess of Sussex said.
