"A very rude man": Queen Elizabeth II's attitude towards Donald Trump revealed in new biography
The late Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain often hosted official receptions for representatives of various countries at Buckingham Palace. Former U.S. President Donald Trump visited monarch's London residence several times, but she considered him a rude person.
English writer Craig Brown shared this in his new biographical book "A Voyage Around the Queen," the Daily Mail reports. According to the author, Her Majesty did not like the fact that the politician often violated the rules of established protocol.
The writer said that a few weeks after meeting with Donald Trump, during a dinner, Elizabeth II admitted to one of the attendees that she considered the American statesman "very rude." The monarch was especially indignant at the way the 78-year-old man kept looking over her shoulder, as if looking for a more interesting person.
In addition, according to the writer, a representative of the British royal family believed that there was a "special arrangement" between Donald Trump and his wife Melania, as she saw no other reason why they were still together.
The first meeting between the two officials took place in 2018, a year after the inauguration of the 45th US president. Since Donald Trump's reputation was rather dubious at the time, the official reception was not identified as a "state visit" but instead called a "working one." The event took place at Windsor Castle over a cup of tea in the absence of other high-ranking members of the royal family. Then the politician made Elizabeth II wait for him for 10 minutes on a hot day, which was the first violation of generally accepted norms.
The next visit of the statesman to Buckingham Palace was more solemn. Her Majesty invited her children to an official dinner. In general, the event was calm, but at the end of the meeting, the former US president made a toast, calling the monarch "a great, great woman" and put his hand on Elizabeth II's back, which again was a violation of the royal protocol.
For his part, Donald Trump is convinced that he has always been the Queen's favorite guest.
"There are those that say they have never seen the Queen have a better time, a more animated time. I feel I know her so well and she certainly knows me very well right now, but we have a very good relationship with the United Kingdom," the politician said.
