Why Duchess Sophie was Queen Elizabeth II's favorite daughter-in-law: the women had a strong bond
The Duchess of Edinburgh is often called the favorite of her late mother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth II. It is impossible to deny the admiration, love and respect that Sophie had for the monarch.
According to Ingrid Seward, writer and editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, fans of the royal family noted the Queen's special affection for the wife of her youngest son, Prince Edward. As the HELLO! magazine expert said, there was a close bond between the daughter-in-law and mother-in-law, based on the strong marriage of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.
"Sophie never put herself forward and didn't want to play the heroine," says Ingrid, "That was one of the reasons why the late Queen loved her so much, and probably why her and Edward's relationship is so harmonious.
Seward added that the Edinburgh couple are very sincere to each other, and family life is very important to them. "I think they always try to make sure that one of them is at home with the kids," the expert suggests. "He seems very proud of her and how she has embraced the values of the royal family, which is to stick together.
Edward and Sophie are the parents of 20-year-old Lady Louise Windsor and 16-year-old James, Earl of Wessex. The couple will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary this June. The silver jubilee will be a personal achievement for them, but it is also a rare milestone for the royal family - Edward is the only one of the four children of Elizabeth II and Prince Philip who has not been divorced.
