Warrior princess "Xena" Oksana Rubaniak and model Karyna Maziar graced the covers of Vogue in the walls of a military lyceum

Vogue Ukraine presents new covers

The covers of the spring issue of Vogue Ukraine feature two Ukrainian women: machine gunner Oksana "Xena" Rubaniak, who is called the "red-haired warrior princess" online, and young model Karyna Maziar, who was photographed in a military lyceum. The shots were taken by British photographer Brett Lloyd, who has worked with Dior, Louis Vuitton, Moncler, Calvin Klein, and Fendi.

The photos appeared on the official Instagram page of the Ukrainian glossy. It's worth explaining that there are two covers, as one was chosen for the regular version and the other for the digital version.

The first version depicts Karyna Maziar in military-style pants and jacket, with cadets from the Ivan Bohun Kyiv Military Lyceum walking behind her. The photo was taken in motion, imitating a scene as if the subjects were leaving the room.

"The spring issue is dedicated to people and causes that inspire – it features stories of Ukrainian designers, artists, curators, and philanthropists who are changing the cultural and social landscape around them," Vogue Ukraine explained.

The digital cover was simpler, but its heroine deserves immense respect. "Xena, who became the only female machine gunner in the platoon of the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after the Black Cossacks, used to work for the Ivano-Frankivsk City Council.

Her vocation is to create poetry, so even at the front, the 21-year-old soldier did not give up her life's work. In between battles with the occupiers, she wrote the collections Toward Death and The Road of Life.

In March 2022, Xena was injured, but after rehabilitation, she returned to her comrades. The "warrior princess" saw firsthand the fighting in the Bakhmut, Vuhledar, and Maryinka sectors.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote that Oksana Rubaniak impressed the network with a photo shoot in a romantic and seductive dress. She ordered it while she was already in the military, hoping to wear it to an appropriate event, but the opportunity did not come. To preserve the memory of her civilian life, the heroine posed without her boots and uniform for the camera.
